Plotting X/Y coordinates of clicks on a page

Just been taking a look at this interesting article

http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/wlg/9240

I’ve been wondering how to go about doing something similar: Detecting the coordinates of every click a user makes in say IE, and saving them into a database. I’m just wondering if anyone knows of a good way to do this – is there language with predefined functions for detecting coordinates?

As mentioned in the article, every click generates an an XML message to a server using AJAX… I’m fine with that, but how to get those coordinates..? Hmm…

Thanks for your help!
