I always seem to have this trouble where my webpages jump around. I cannot seem to understand why. My template is set at 760px in width, and I start off creating a table that wraps everything up (the table is 760 in width). However, I’ve noticed that when I go to implement different pages onto the template, some tables may move, causing the website to be ‘jumpy’. I can’t figure out why it’s doing this.

IN ADDITION, when i go to preview the webpage, it may show a scroll bar at the bottom of the page, indicating the the width is beyond 800px – but when i click refresh, the scroll bar disappears. This only happens for the very first time i preview the website.

It’s a weird problem that I’m having working on this website. http://www.promotionalconnections.com.au/confectionery/confectionery.html

Any suggestions how to fix this problem.

BTW my screen resolution is at 800 by 600.

Cheers

Annie

@WebJoelMar 05.2006 — Nice site, -I like the colors and layout. I do show 122 'warnings' when validating it, mostly things like tag-endings where they don't belong, or non-existant. This alone can account for some of the 'jumpiness' you report. Most importantly, there is no !doctype statement, so it's anybody's guess how it appears in various browser versions.

'Tables' when loading into browsers, must render twice. Once to lay out their actual structure, and a second time as each individual content is populated where it belongs, and there is a 'pushing & shoving' going on, as each area is populated. This actually slows 'resolve time' on the screen. With dialup, this can be rather a long wait.

A lot of this site could be updated to use *css and not have to do a major re-write. Things like using 'font color=' can be incorporated into the 'style=' in the 'span' that follows it, with a simple 'color:xxx' declaration.

The link (posted above) at hotdesign.com/seybold is VERY useful, -you'll get a lot from there! ?
