Has Microsoft gone crazy?

I have just downloaded this latest IE7 thing and installed it and in my opinion it is absolutely and completely broken. Nothing is displayed in any way that resembles a rendering by either Firefox, IE6 or Opera. Even the font size isn’t correct. ALA menus don’t work… they just open and remain open and for some reason the text remains the :hover colour on mouse out. And acid 2… well it’s not even recognisible.

The interface looks ok… a few updated icon etc… but it seems as if the browser engine could do with plenty more time spent on it.

Now I need to figure out how to remove this thing from my PC and return it to it previous state. There does not even appear to be any uninstall method and it completely overwrote IE6. Damn!

@NogDogFeb 25.2006 — Some might say you are the crazy one for trying beta software from the maker of IE6. ? :p

@thewebmanFeb 25.2006 — to answer the original question: microsoft has always been insane.

@ShrineDesignsFeb 25.2006 — that's microsoft for ya, you can install it but can't get rid of lol

@FangFeb 25.2006 — Run IE7 beta as a standalone, do not install it.

@GoggleFeb 25.2006 — Do you guys think it's possible they'll release IE7 without support for standards? I mean... I know what they've done in the past... But this is a serious problem. For me as a web developer, I lose money because of it. I can only ask for so much from a client, and when IE causes serious problems, both my client and I suffer. I like coding for IE but professionally it's a problem.

edit: I feel sad when I see that horrible rendering attempt.

@GoggleFeb 25.2006 — I start in Firefox and Opera but if there's a problem in IE, my clients tend to care far more than I do. Usually the problem only lasts a day at the most, like a restructuring of a pop up menu across the code and a solving of a small error in alignment settings. There has been the odd case where it cost me a lot of hours due to having to restructure quite a lot of code. If I let my code get that far with errors in IE I'm just asking for trouble, I know, but had the browser supported standards it would never have been a problem. That can be frustrating.

@felgallFeb 26.2006 — IE7 has a lot better support for the standards than IE6 but still falls a long way behind other web browsers (I guess that's why they called it IE7 instead of IE9).

@JPnycFeb 26.2006 — I don't know for certain but I've heard that you need to do a restore to a point prior to IE7 in order to go back.
