A simple div box with left column?

Hi

I was trying making a.. just as what the title says.
The left column is floated to the left and has a background color that should go all the way down. But since the div box may vary in height I cannot use a fix height for using 100% height on the column.

Is a background image the only solution with css?

With tables ofcourse it would be easy, but prefer to skip it

I do not want to change the layout, the layout on the body is fine as it is. I do want however to make some div boxes on the page to put information in, there will be like more than 10 at least stacking under eachother with a margin space in between

That article involves the whole layout, doesn´t it?

@the_treeFeb 22.2006 — I reckon faux collums are your best bet. Have a vertically repeating background image on your body (or container) and it'll look to the affect of the div that goes over that, goes all the way down.

So I guess css is pretty poor in this matter.... there should be a stretch attribute to the height so it will stretch the div all the way down according from the parent div.. for an example
