search eng registration

I’ve seen alot of posts about specific search engines and optimization of rankings but very little on how to register with the major s.e.’s for a new site. Is this still done? If so can someone point me in the right direction?

I’ve got some info for submitting a site map to google, but I searched a long time yesterday on yahoo to try to figure out how to register this new site with them but couldnt find anything.

I realize that registering alone does very little as far as rankings but still figured it was a start … any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

@SeoDocMar 07.2006 — Manual submission to search engines is really not that hard. You have the major ones which here is a guide to help:

After the major SE's, a good plan is to seek out directories and other related sites and submit to them.
