hidden page to be printed

I’m not qute sure where to post this because I do not know if it would be done with Javascript or HTML or what.

I am creating a website for a law firm, and the owner of the company wants to put legal froms on the site (wills, power of attorneys, etc) that the users can print out and use for themselves. I put the forms as PDF’s on the site. The owner of this firm wants to attach an information page that will tell the user how to use the form, but he does not want this page to be viewed on the computer (I have no idea why), but he wants it to be there when the user prints out the form. Is there any way to do this, and if so can someone show me the code to use? thank you

@KDLAFeb 20.2006 — Since the forms are in PDF, there's not much you can do. If these forms were in HTML, you could use a CSS setting which only makes the text appear on the printed page, and not on the screen.

@felgallFeb 20.2006 — In PDFs you can use the Notes tool to attach notes into the document itself which will not be printed. If you set up a form overlay to allow the form to be printed out online you can also set up form fields that can display information on the page that will not print with the page. Each of these can be easily added to the PDF by editing the PDF in Acrobat.

@NMMediaauthorFeb 21.2006 — Unfortunatly, these pages have to be in PDF, since they are legal forms, and felgall, I think you got what I wanted backwards. I need something that does not show up on screen but does show up when printed.

@KDLAFeb 21.2006 — You could have the links print the documents, without their ever appearing on the screen. I did this with a huge annual report once. The file was enormous, and I figured most people getting there by accident wouldn't want to wait for it to load, to find out it was the wrong document.

Try this: http://www.irt.org/script/508.htm

Instead of the html addresses, you could try the pdf ones. You'd have to have two pdf versions: the first, the "screen only" one; the second, the form + instructions.

If this doesn't work, you might post a thread in the javascript forum about print page buttons. I don't know enough about javascript to customize anything for you.

It's weird that your boss doesn't want the instructions to be viewed. To me, that would be the most important part: the forms would be the things I would want hidden, for fear of copyright infringement.

Good Luck-

@felgallFeb 21.2006 — So put all of the instructions into a form field in the PDF that only displays when the form is printed. With PDF forms you can select whether the field displays on the screen and/or on the printer.
