n00b question re: links

Hi,

This is probably a bit of a noobie question, but if I have a rollover image with a URL link in it, can a search engine follow the link? Or do I have to also have a standard text URL link somewhere else on the page?

iirc, rollover images are JavaScript?

Cheers

@bathurst_guyFeb 19.2006 — Depends on how it is set up, and if you included an alternate text for the image, and of course which search engine. But, I would think that Google, for example, would follow it although adding a title and alt would help the site you were linking to for keyword consideration

@TheRobsterauthorFeb 19.2006 — Hi,

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. The rollover image is part of a navigation menu on my homepage, so it just links to other pages on the same website. The menu is made up from table cells, with each cell having a rollover image inserted into it and also a URL link attached to each image.

@ray326Feb 19.2006 — The spider just sees the link, not the image. You'd be better off doing the rollover with CSS instead of Javascript, though.
