deleting an onclick event from an oject

if i have an onclick event in an image or td/tr
and i want by a JS code to cancel it (and maybe later return it – of course as long as i didnt leave the page )
how can i do this?

onclick="return false;" will simply cancel it

I'm not certain, but you could simply write "return false;" in front of the code that is already there, and it will cancel the event. Then later, you can just remove the "return false;" part
