Java hosting services

Hello,

I hope this is the correct forum for this question. I’m seeking an affordable hosting site that runs Tomcat. I recently became serious about pursuing a career in Java development and I want a site to host my personal Java applications as my resume.

I’ve Googled “Java hosting”, but I’m interested in hearing personal reviews, what services real people are using and are happy with ? . I was thinking of going with http://www.javaservlethosting.com/ to get started. I’m in the US, and my budget range is $20-25. Other than multiple subdomains and databases, I’m not quite sure what other features I’m interested in, or will need.

Thanks!

Jaqy

@dc_daltonFeb 11.2006 — why Tomcat? there are other great servlet engines out there too, my favorite is Resin. It's twice as fast as tomcat and a whole lot easier to deal with!

try dcdhosting.com

I've only worked with Tomcat. But I guess the server isn't as important. I just need the ability to host Java applications. Do you host at dcdhosting? If yes, what has been your experience with the service?

@dc_daltonFeb 14.2006 — I've run Resin since 2001 and have also used Tomcat. To be honest I would never go back to Tomcat again!

I run 12 servlet / jsp sites on dcdhosting.com ..... and yes I also own it!

@jaqy_francoauthorFeb 17.2006 — Thank you dcDalton.

Yes, I figured you were somehow involved with the site :-).

I'm surprised by the lack of other responses. Has no one caught on to personal java hosting? Most probably it's the lack of interest in this thread :-). At least I tried.

Thanks again for your response.

Thanks for your reply. It didn't look like register.com supports Java. Unless I missed it?

@mwmwnmwJun 15.2006 — Jaqy,

I am in exactly the same boat. In fact, I was leaning towards prokmu yesterday until I started reading some reviews of them. Pretty scary stuff. I haven't found a single review site where their overall is favorable. Right now I'm leaning toward LFC hosting, but I haven't decided yet. One thing I know for sure... avoid eapps.com at all costs. I've been with them two weeks and am literally desperate to get out of there. What a nightmare.

dc,

I checked out your site. No offense, but it's really slow loading, which is kind of offputting for a hosting company's site. The plans and pricing are good, but there's just no way I'll ever make the mistake of going w/ a host that doesn't offer 24/7 chat support again. I've been a freelance php developer for 6 years and I will not recommend any host to my clients that doesn't offer that type of support. In my experience companies who want to do support via email or telephone are essentially saying that they will help you whenever they feel like it. For me, no big deal. But for clients who have their business dreams riding on a website it really matters. I'm not cracking on you at all. I'm just throwing that out there as a view from the other side of the fence.

@mwmwnmwJun 15.2006 — Updating.....

I just gave both LFC and Prokmu the support chat test, and both failed miserably. Here's how it played out.....

LFC couldn't get their 24-7 chat to work properly. What little conversation I had with the man there centered around how he keeps receiving active x warnings every time someone types a message, and how it's been going on for days. Um.......

Prokmu I was probably a bit tough on. I told the rep directly that I had read bad reviews and asked if (s)he would mind answering the concerns in those reviews. The rep agreed. I asked about server overloading, which was one of their biggest criticisms. The rep explained that they run up to 75 accounts per node on the basic plan, but only up to 50 per node on the private java. That's not great but it's not terrible either. I then mentioned that there were two reviews stating that they had not honored their guarantee and had tried to continue billing customers cards long after they had closed their account. At the point the conversation turned a bit dark. The rep became quite terse with me and finally settled on the explanaiton of "if they (the customers) had a problem it was probably their fault".

Sooooooooo, any other suggestions?

visionwebhosting.net are the same guys as astrahosting just do a search for astrahosting and see. Their game is to hijack your domain name. Once you have handed over your cash you will never hear back from them again! After giving them control of my domain it is now in their name and there is no way of getting it back. The whois information on visionwebhosting.net is incorrect and I am afraid it will be setting up the site again on another domain... Be very aware of these guys. If you are tempted to use them do some searches on them and their other disguise astrahosting and see for yourself!

Adios:mad:

Hello again,

I looked at register.com, and I didn't see anything about Java, JavaServlet, or JSP capabilities. Please let me know if I missed it.

Thanks for doing this. I guess this is something I need to do too in my research. Is there one website to read reviews of java hosting sites?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

if you are a java developer you can check out my site www.whatjar.co.uk

Hope this helps.

Thanks again. I'm realizing it's really scary out there with scammer web host services. A friend of mine keeps telling me to get my own server in order to save myself the trouble and costs :-). But I'll keep looking. Thanks for suggesting dailyrazor. I hope it continues to work out for you.

@javanodeApr 05.2011 — Virtual hosting is better solution then dedicated server. It combines power of dedicated services and flexibility of shared hosting.

http://javanode.com could provides not only VDS hosting services for low prices but helps you setup java and database servers you need
