Hi all,
A real newbie at this, hope someone can help without laughing too much! Would like to host some ebooks I’ve got in order to sell them, so I don’t need the site to look good, just to be functional – i.e I can send someone an email with a link in it and allow them to download the relevant ebook from the site. Any pointers/help greatly appreciated!

@LiLcRaZyFuZzYFeb 04.2006 — if you want to sell them, you might want a bit more security, right?

@ray326Feb 04.2006 — How many buyers do you expect on a periodic basis? A handful a week can be done manually. More than that needs extra thought, work and programming.

@degsamillionauthorFeb 04.2006 — I'm hoping to get up to around 20 or 30 a week, but will be sellling them thru eBay - using paypal, so the security should be there. I've got Outlook Express programmed to respond to sales, it's just the hosting of the ebooks I need to crack!

@xtecltdFeb 04.2006 — to be honest mate i think your wasteing your time with ebooks iv been there and done it myself and selling ebook is easy but not the best thing to do due to so many people doing it

i have over 80,000 ebooks rangeing from £1 to £2555 and its so hard to sell them due to the ebay rip offs pluse you can download 90% of the ebooks on ebay free from then net

you will never have the same person buy a book from you more then once because the will buy the book and sell it on 100s of time even if they dont have the copyrights

but we all have to start somewhere if you need and ideas help ect let me no

if you host your site with www.pickaweb.co.uk they have a site builder witch is easy and fast to use for your first site

@ray326Feb 05.2006 — For that low a rate you could probably put the ebook files on a Unix/Linux host and use obscurely named, temporary soft links to expose them for say a 24 hour period. With a little server side programming you could give them one shot at the download. With a little more you could give them a url, id and password that would be usable once.
