IE putting space between title image and tabs

Hi all,

I am very green to Web development and am trying to make a site for some history buff friends who re-enact Civil War. My site is www.56thga.com.

My trouble is that the site came from a template that I will admit I do not fully understand. At first I could not get the footer image from the hom page to display correctly on the other tabs, so I just nixed it from the other tabs for the time being (it kept going out to the right instead of staying at the bottom).

Now, though it is fine in FireFox, in IE, giant spaces are being placed between my title image and my tab images. It looks horrible, and my code looks worse because I’ve been messing with it so much to try and fix it. I hope that it is a very easy an obvious fix to you guys!

Thanks!

@ray326Jan 27.2006 — You might want to limit that img styling within a div or something. Also you need a valid doctype to get IE out of quirks mode.

@jkellyauthorJan 27.2006 — I did the style sheet addition, and that didn't work. How do I know if my doctype is valid. I have read a couple of articles around here, but I am still not really clear on it. The site uses tables, and most of the doctypes I see are referring to framesets?

Thanks for your help.

@jkellyauthorJan 27.2006 — Got happy too fast. It only worked for the About tab, and I don't know what's different about it from the others. I changed all the tags to lower case. Now my Home page, which used to look decent is all off kilter.

Where is a good place to learn more about div tags. I probably need to use them to better organize the site. It is a mess trying to keep things where they are supposed to be. These spacer images that came with the template drive me nuts and I'd get rid of them if I knew how.
