Sequence of table cells in array

I use the following code to work with table cells:

var allElements = document.getElementsByTagName(“td”);
for (var i = 0; i < allElements.length; i++) {
var testElement = allElements[i];
……

I have used this code a few times, and it seems to me that the array numbers the cells from left to right and top to bottom. Is this sequence guaranteed, or have I just been lucky so far?

Regards,
Alan

It is guarateed, as long as

:

1. The table is the only one table on page;

2. You understand that the cells order follows the rows order.
