Horizontal Scrolling

Hi

I am attempting the beginnings of a film-strip style photo album and am investigating the possibilities and opportunities for this. I have set up a very simple test page to see how horizontal scrolling would work using <div>’s and CSS overflow.

The following is a basic idea of the functionality I would like:

but this is working on FireFox and not Internet Explorer – I haven’t tested others though it would be useful to know. Basically you can see that the horizontal scroll appears on FireFox but not on IE. I have used a similar technique for fixing <div>s for vertical scrolling but can’t see where I have gone wrong on this one. Is it just something in IE or does anyone have a solution.

Would iframes be a better solution? I would prefer a CSS solution if there is one.

@MagiauthorJan 19.2006 — I have solved the first part I need. To get overflow to work in IE you need to specify a width (for x) and height (for y) so putting width:100% in did the trick.

Works in FireFox, IE, Opera and Netscape once I changed to overflow:auto instead of using overflow-x and overflow-y. I think the only issue is the whitespace:nowrap not functioning in IE5.0.

@toicontienJan 19.2006 — If you're speaking about Internet Explorer 5.01 for Windows, then white-space isn't supported. IE5-Mac supports that property.
