PNG, JPG & GIF image formats

Hello everyone!

1- Would someone, please, give me a short comparison between these 3 image formats as for the size and quality (for one same image of the same dimensions)?
2- Is there server-side JavaScript, and may someone refer me to an appropriate source, if any.

Thanks in anticipation.

@LJKDec 31.2005 — Hi -

I've a short tutorial on images for the web at

my site [see signature] that might help you.

Thought javascript was strictly client-side but

you might try posting that question in the js forum.

Have fun,

@jzwpDec 31.2005 — When I work with my image editor I always save the file in various extensions to see what happens.

JPG saves the best quality but largest size.

GIF can be edited to make a particular color transparent and also insert them into an animator. However, some color quality is lost.

PNG will save a smaller size than GIF but you can't doing anything more with it. Better color quality than GIF too.

@webstuffDec 31.2005 — Depending on what your doing, depends on what you use.

What editors are you using at the moment?
