How we can fetch selected value

I can fetch the id of multiple selection but i am fetching the name as per their ids.then plz tell how we can do.

for e.g
$author_id=$fetch[“author_id”];
i am fetching the id of author_id in $author_id variable like this 1,3
then how this would be selected in edit page*

*=record changing page

anyways, edit pages typically use the get method, you know,your url looks like this:
<i>
</i>/yourpage.php?id=8

and you can get that value "8" by using[code=php]$id=$_GET['id'];[/code] Best of luck.
