can connect through localhost but not ip

Hi,

What does it mean if i can connect through localhost but cant connect through ip.

I dont get an error just hangs?

My username is set to user@localhost, i cant seem to get it to any (user@%)

But does that make a difference?

** edit { just to make it clear, it is to my mysql server

@NogDogDec 21.2005 — the user name should be a database user defined for your mysql database, not a login user. I don't believe mysql users can have a '@' in the name (but i'm not positive about that).

@chazzyDec 21.2005 — if this is through a hosting company and they tell you to use localhost then use localhost. they have their own configuration to try to block out unauthorized access.
