IE being ANNOYING about "active content"

I recently pulled a javascript from the ‘htmlgoodies’ website that is meant to open up a new window with an image in it and a button to “close window.” After fiddling with it for some time, I finally got it to work. I’ve never messed with javascript before, I just knew the code was out there to do what I wanted. It’s not even an automatic opening of a window. The user will have to click on a button that says “View image” to even get the pop-up window.

When I went to test it in IE, I get the marvelous “error” from IE saying that it has “restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer.” As far as I know, this file doesn’t do anything like that!! When I played with it on the ‘htmlgoodies’ site, I didn’t get that error in IE. So, why is it pitching a fit when I try to use the same code?!

When I keep telling IE to allow the code to work, it works perfect! It’s just that IE is pitching an overprotective fit! As this is for an ecommerce site, that’s not acceptable. If it’s doing it to me, then it will do it to someone else. Is there something wrong with the code? Or is it just IE being nuts? Also, if it’s IE being nuts, how can I make it stop doing that?!

Thanks!!

@coprincessauthorDec 15.2005 — What drives me nuts is that it's on my hard drive for crying out loud!! No matter how many times I tell IE to "trust" the webpage I'm building, it doesn't want to listen. I'm hoping that once I get it loaded up to the server, those problems will stop. I hope!

@FangDec 15.2005 — Tools > Internet Options ... > Advanced

Scroll down to Security

Switch on: Allow active content to run in files on My Computer

You may need to do the same for CD's.

It's a local security warning, won't happen on the server.

@coprincessauthorDec 15.2005 — Wow... You know, I don't have those settings on mine. What version of IE are you running? Just curious. I went through and found anything that had a darn thing to do with active controls and set it to "enable." I didn't get it when I loaded up my main page, just when that little window popped up. It apparently doesn't like the "close window" button. *grin* As long as it will behave on the server, then I'll be happy. Because other than that goofy warning, it works perfect!

Now, to finish up this website and load it up before the 1st. Goodness gracious! Thank you for your help!!

@FangDec 15.2005 — It's IE6 sp2 You must have the same or you wouldn't get the warning.
