simple questoin about variables

Can someone explain to me how you normally go about saving information across several pages?

For example, say I have a member login page and someone flagged as an administrator who would get additional menu options. How could I store that flag so I know that person is “special” even if he goes back and forth between member and non-member pages? Do you use cookies for this or is there variables that are defined and in scope for the entire time the person is viewing the pages?

Thanks,
Rut

@NogDogDec 08.2005 — Put session_start() at the top of each PHP page (before any output, including HTML not within <?php tags), and save the desired data in the $_SESSION array. See http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.session.php for more info.
