Bringing Modularity using CSS

Hi all!
I hv designed some my pages using pure CSS approach and after lot of hit n trials I hv been able to achieve the desired outlook. This time my question is not related to ne specific problem. I wanted 2 know hw v could bring in modular approach by use of pure CSS. I hv another question. Is pure CSS a better appoach or v should hv a good hybrid b/w HTML table structure and CSS. your advice will govern how I will design my sites from now on.
Thnx in advance.

@swatisharmaauthorDec 07.2005 — My question about using pure CSS or hybrid approach has got a reply. I can also have ne other suggestion which somebody might want 2 drop in.

But my 2nd Q is still not answered. How can use CSS to bring in modularity?

What I think of modularity is making some reusable component and then using them in similar pages again n again. Is there nethin else related to modularity which v can implement using CSS technique? becoz I feel modularity is v important. Thnx again in advance.

@NogDogDec 07.2005 — If I'm understanding correctly, modularity is probably better addressed by the use of some sort of server-side processing; whether it be server-side includes (SSI) or the use of scripting/CGI programming (PHP, ASP, Perl, etc.) to include reusable portions of your web content.

@swatisharmaauthorDec 08.2005 — I m not v sure bout it! maybe its wat u referring to. But the main idea I had was to built such things which could be used later and dividing a web page into portions and then develop so that v could reuse what v have developed

@NogDogDec 09.2005 — The only aspect of CSS which is "modular" is the fact that you can use external style sheets, so you can have many pages all reference the same stylesheet. However, as far as page content, CSS has nothing to do with that. Its purpose is to affect the visual presentation of the page, not the content. As I stated in my earlier post, to implement modular, reusable content you will need to use some sort of server-side processing.

@ShrineDesignsDec 09.2005 — what i have being doing lately is something along the line, i think you are trying to do

first code a layout (the html) as generic as possible, then make a default stylesheet (generic) that will define the main layout's look (give it shape), then do another stylesheet (detail) that will define in detail of how the layout is to look: colors, links, fonts, etc.

then later on, if you want to switch the look of the site all you have to do is make another "detail" stylesheet

this is the main point of CSS, and states the purpose and intent of what CSS is
