What’s causing this gap?

when I resize my screen resolution to 800×600 (normally 1280×1024) a 6px space occurs between the left and the bottom images appears in both browsers.
In the 1280 wide resolutions it doesn’t happen, but as the resolutions are set smaller from there the gap appears.

Damn those people still looking at sites with a 800×600 screen resolution. Damn them all to hell!!!

@BonRougeDec 04.2005 — Sorry for not replying...

I was a little confused by your layout, to be honest. I'm wondering - if you want to have content with a fixed height within a container of fixed height - why don't you just use one background image?

@pathfinder74authorDec 04.2005 — Do you mean just use the whole image from Photoshop without slicing it?

I asked myself the same question and I'm not totally sure why I didn't do it that way.

I really couldn't say. I guess partly because I wanted to get the feel for laying out <DIV> containers using CSS.

Any suggestion for the original question though.

The fact that it could have been used as a single background image doesn't help me if I have a similar problem in the future on a site that can't be simplified so easily.

Thanks again.

@BonRougeDec 06.2005 — Your layout's pretty messed up. I'd recommend not using empty divs to put images to the side of something. Make more use of the elements with content in them.

@pathfinder74authorDec 06.2005 — Isn't that part of the beauty of CSS design... being able to freely position things like images? Seems like that's how a lot of the sites in the CSS Zen Garder are laid out.

@SiddanDec 08.2005 — lol, I am sorry, but that code is really a mess. I tried to help you but cannot help falling a sleep after I looked it over more thoroughly. I really have to convert your whole page just to orginize it and make it more used correctly.

Easiest would be to wrap your whole content into a div. then you can adjust easier with the fluids how you want your content to be positioned and all.

As I see it would be enough with a 2 column layout

@pathfinder74authorDec 09.2005 — Please tell me what's "messy" about the code? The flow of it when looking at the code itself?

Like I said... I'm just getting the hang of handcoding and using CSS for positioning so I definitely would like to know what I need to do to improve it.

@pathfinder74authorJun 25.2006 — FWIW I fixed the gap... The body and the left pieces were not positions absolutely allowing them to move when the size of the browser was changed. It was simple and I don't know why it only now just clicked.

I also cleaned up most if not all of the validation errors. Seems to be good to go now.
