local web server setup

Hi. I’m trying to set up my own test server to develop on using iis, php, and mysql on xp professional.

I’m a complete newb and am for the most part completely lost.

I was using [url]http://drupal.org/node/9407[/url] as a tutorial but there are certain parts that arent explained well. Anyway I downloaded all the files needed and…like i said. Am lost.

If anyone has any better tutorials or anything that would explain things a little more clearly I would be really grateful. Thanks.

@Daniel_TNov 20.2005 — If you just want a testing server, you're better off installing a preconfigured package like [url=http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html]XAMPP[/url] or (my favourite) [url=http://www.wampserver.com/en/]WAMP[/url].

i was wondering though, since this is only a local server, how do i go about setting it so that other people can view, and test, my website.

(sorry for being a stupid newb. things went downhill after my parents neglected to get me a pony for my 16th birthday.)
