Horizontal scrolling in IE (Frames)

(Hopefully this is in the correct forum, am not sure if it is more suited to the CSS forum.)

I’ve got a slight problem with a site I’m working on for someone. The website is in frames and on the sections I’ve worked on I’ve noticed that in Internet Explorer there is horizontal scrolling.

The URL is [url]http://www.knightmare.com/brollachan/[/url] and then click on the series link (this is the section I’m currently working on), and in the series section (1-4 so far) this problem is occuring.

Personally if it was my site I’d completely do away with frames and switch to PHP, and I am still tempted to do so, though I’m currently working on the original task which is to remove a lot of waste HTML.

@GiskardNov 16.2005 — You have a table with column widths - 6%, 6%, 40%, 21%, 9%, 27%. That totals 109% and is probably the problem.

@BrollachanauthorNov 17.2005 — No, that doesn't appear to be the cause as this problem is occuring within the indivdual series pages, and within the series pages (ie. 'series 1', 'series 2'...) the horizontal scroll is occuring and there are virtually no tables on these pages. Where possible I'm removing the tables and using CSS to help sort out the layout.

@BrollachanauthorNov 17.2005 — Looking at the coding it would seem that the cause of the horizontal scroll is the DOCTYPE line.

I've tried the pages with both

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

...and...

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Frameset//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/frameset.dtd">

...however neither seem to solve the horizontal scroll problem.

So is there a doctype that will work, some css/html fix, or should I just solve the problem by removing the doctype statement from internal pages?
