Not in same position in Mozila ans IE

I have this menu on my site and I jut can’t get it to line up the same in the two browsers. Mozilla displays it the way that I want nd IE has it all messed up.Not in same position in Mozila ans IE. You can see the two images here: http://west4me.com/IE.jpg and http://west4me.com/moodle2.jpg. The second image is the way that I want it to look. The website is http://www.west4me.com/moodle

This is is the code for that section:
<table width=”100%” height=”174px” border=”0″ cellpadding=”0″ cellspacing=”0″ background=”http://www.west4me.com/webcollab/head.jpg”>
<ul id=”topnav”>
<li><a href=”http://west4me.com/moodle” id=”navHome” title=”Posted Recently” accesskey=”h”>Home</a></li>
<li><a href=”http://west4me.com/cal” id=”navHome” title=”Posted Recently” accesskey=”c”>Calendar</a></li>
<li><a href=”http://west4me.com/story2″ id=”navHome” title=”Posted Recently” accesskey=”s”>Stories</a></li>
<li><a href=”http://west4me.com/bookmarks” id=”navHome” title=”Posted Recently” accesskey=”b”>Bookmarks</a></li>
<li><a href=”http://west4me.com/wordpress” id=”navHome” title=”Posted Recently” accesskey=”w”>Blog</a></li>
<li><a href=”http://west4me.com/webcollab/index.php” id=”navHome” title=”Posted Recently” accesskey=”p”>Writing Progress</a></li>
<li><a href=”http://west4me.com/kidscms/index.php” id=”navHome” title=”Posted Recently” accesskey=”f”>Student Pages</a></li>
<li><a href=”http://west4me.com/daily/name.php” id=”navHome” title=”Posted Recently” accesskey=”f”>Name Draw</a></li>
<li><a href=”http://www.west4me.com/daily/job2.php” id=”navHome” title=”Posted Recently” accesskey=”g”>Jobs</a></li>
</ul>

<tr>

<td align=”right” class=logininfo><?php echo $menu ?></td>

</tr>
</table>
This is the CSS for that section.
#topnav
{
list-style:none;
float: right;
font-size:1.0em;
margin:0 auto;
padding:5px 20px 0 0;
text-align: right;
font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
}
#topnav li
{
list-style:none;
display:inline;
padding:0;
margin:0;
font-weight:bold;
font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
}

#topnav li a:link, #topnav li a:visited
{
text-decoration:none;
color:#BBC4A3;
}
#topnav li a:hover, #topnav li a:active
{
color:#F7F3ED;
}
Any ideas why it is doing that?

@drhowarddrfineOct 26.2005 — You have 100 html errors and many css errors plus you are trying to use moz code which won't work in IE, multiply defined 'id's and on and on and on.

VALIDATE YOUR CODE!

@west4meauthorOct 26.2005 — Thanks for responding but...

The problem here is that I am using a huge open-source php script and I'm not very good at php. I can sort of dig around and make things look a little different but that's about all.

The css errors are coming from htmlarea's css and not the main css. There are many warnings, most dealing with the lack of a background color. I didn't think that it would effect the layout. Will it?

The html page that I am working on does not have any errors. I just checked for validation.

I'm new at this so could someone explain "moz code," which I assume is Mozilla code and what I doing that doesn't work with IE.

If someone has any ideas of how to fix the problem I'm having I would appreciate the guidance.

@west4meauthorOct 26.2005 — Ok, I got the text to the right but now I can't get it down over the blzck section like it does in Mozilla. I don't know what I'm doing. Trial and error, any ideas?

@west4meauthorOct 27.2005 — I I managed to get the page looking the way that I wanted.

I was working on a specific file, this file did generate a few errors but that was because the ending tags are in a completely different file that is included via php.

@drhowarddrfineOct 27.2005 — this file did generate a few errors
Yeah, well, great. Only a few, eh? 88 plus css errors is a few? Have you ever had a page with zero errors? Must make you ecstatic.

@KeveyOct 27.2005 — This place gets rowdy huh? When I get zero errors it's usually by mistake.
