Insert variable text onto website (easily!)

Afternoon all
I have a site and I need to update the sales pages on a regular basis with the current market price/guessed value/hourly rate. I don’t want to update the whole page, just upload one small file. Question is, can I do this with a simple info.txt (or similar) file, and make my pages point to this to retrieve the latest information? I’ve looked in my books, but with no luck.
Can any of you clever people out there help me please?
Paul

@FangOct 20.2005 — Server-side includes (SSI), or with PHP include

@LiLcRaZyFuZzYOct 20.2005 — first and foremost, welcome to the forums!

yes you can do that, but with a server side language only, like php, asp, perl to name a few.

Is you server enabled for either of those languages?

If you don't know, ask you host! ?

@sonflowerinwaleauthorOct 20.2005 — Thank you, it's nice to be made welcome.

Off home shortly to write some code and give it a try. Ley you all know later.

All the best,

@sonflowerinwaleauthorOct 31.2005 — Tried PHP include, without any success. Going to re-vamp websites as planned, but using the variable text as a .gif, easy to insert and change. Thanks for your advice.

@LiLcRaZyFuZzYOct 31.2005 — text as a gif?

Is that a joke?

@sonflowerinwaleauthorOct 31.2005 — Well, it works, but needs a bit of refinement. Have a look at http://www.pencaderstables.com/996/variable.html for my first go. I intend to make the variable independent of the surrounding text, so a bit of mis-alignment does'nt matter.

All the best

@CharlesOct 31.2005 — Actually, no it doesn't work on audio and Braille browsers. And that could get you in trouble.

@LiLcRaZyFuZzYOct 31.2005 — Also on text-only browser, or browsers with images turned off, or simply the fact that it would take more time to load.

Please, do it server-side, ask for assistance if you need any, but it would definately be better

@sonflowerinwaleauthorNov 01.2005 — Hmmmm, not something I had thought of. Off to do some research on Braille and audio browsers...........

Sorry, I wasn't on line when your message came through. I take your point, you are the experts. Plan "D" is to research alternative browsers and find out what server side language my ISP uses.
