retrieving variables from URL in include file

I have a variable stored in the browser’s URL and I am currently trying to retrieve this variable in an include file. I can’t seem to get it to work although everything works fine when I retrieve the variable in the main file. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong here?

@cwrathOct 13.2005 — Yes your include file is generally taken as-is, which means that you will need your $_GET in a function then call the function in the main file

func. getData() {

//code

}

in main file

$get = getData();
