newbie question re: audio on website

hi all ….
am creating simple 1 page website with netscape composer ….have done 1 before …very bare bones stuff …

i would to add a link or button to the page that would play a 12 to 15 minute recorded audio message…. my questions are;

  • 1.

    what is the best overall format for this size audio file?? i would like for it to open and play easily …. and do so on most anyone’s computer.

  • 2.

    should i add the audio file directly to the website ..or ..would there be any advantage to storing it somewhere else and linking to it??

  • 3.

    if the recommendation is wma, would netscape composer be “friendly” to it?

  • ok, i told you i was a newbie … would appreciate any input regarding this matter.
    thx,
    jerry

    @rhsundergroundOct 06.2005 — i believe WMA is the smallest size. DEFINITELY link to the file. that way, the user can not only listen to it whenever they like, but more importantly they can listen and still browse the internet. that is one of my biggest pet peeves with embedded music. if you link to the file, composer will have nothing to do with its playback - it will depend on whether they have the right software (most notably Windows Media Player) installed. i would also recommend placing a link to the WMP download page in case your users don't have it.
