width:auto; what is the current size?

Hey all!

When a ‘width:’ property of a <DIV> is set to ‘auto’, it resizes to fit its current content. But is there a way to find out, what the current DIV size is?

If I try to find it out by ‘document.getElementById(“div1”).style.width’, the word ‘auto’ is returned but no real value.

Thanx.
