convert repetetive text into script

i use this script, several times on 1 page

 onmouseover=”this.style.MozOpacity=1;this.filters.alpha.opacity=100″
onmouseout=”this.style.MozOpacity=0.5;this.filters.alpha.opacity=50″

what can i chage it to to get it as a function instead?

i tried this

function fadeover() {
this.style.MozOpacity = “1”;
this.filters.alpha.opacity = “100”;

function fadeoff() {
this.style.MozOpacity = “0.5”;
this.filters.alpha.opacity = “50”;

i get error this.style is null or not an object
