getting a specific row in a query

I am querying a bunch of data from a mysql database and I am putting it into pages. What I basically need to do is to obtain the first record in a page for a query. Here is a formula for what I am trying to do:

First record of a page = (page number – 1) * (records per page) + 1

So for instance, if it was the second page and there were 4 records per page, the record that i would wnat to obtain is 5.

I guess i figure the rest out if someone could just let me know how to obtain a specific record in a query.

I already have a query set up that uses $row[‘ ‘] , but i tried sticking a specific number in there, and it didnt work.

@NogDogSep 01.2005 — If using mysql, use the mysql_data_seek() function to set the row pointer to the desired row. (Remember that row numbering starts at zero, so you can drop the "+ 1" from the end of your record number formula.)
