Pasting Yahoo store IDs into FrontPage 2003

I am building my very first web site. I will be selling hard to find candy (old time favorites). I have chosen FrontPage 2003 to do the off-line web site development and Yahoo Merchant Solutions to host it (good price, lots of tools, built in shopping cart, partner with UPS, etc. – everything I need, so I don’t have to re-invent the wheel).

Yahoo uses a store catalog to pull information from to provide data to the shopping cart checkout process. The link to this catalog is by using Yahoo store tags. Yahoo provides a wizard to produce these. Here are some examples:

Name: <!–#ystore_catalog id=”af01″ field=”name” –>

Price: <!–#ystore_catalog id=”af01″ field=”price” –>

Options: <!–#ystore_catalog id=”af01″ field=”options” format=”html” –>

Caption: <!–#ystore_catalog id=”af01″ field=”caption” –>

Order Button: <form method=”post” action=”<!–#ystore_order id=”af01″
–>”><input type=”submit” value=”Order”></form>

I want to use these tags on my product pages, so that if I make a change to the product name, description, options (flavors), or price I only have to change it one place – in the Yahoo catalog.

My problem is that FrontPage 2003 (FP) does not like these tags. When trying to copy and paste the Yahoo catalog store tags into my FP product page, they come up all grayed out and don’t work when I publish to my Yahoo web site. Apparently FP interprets these tags as comments and deletes them when I publish to Yahoo. If I paste these tags directly into a page that is already hosted on my Yahoo web site, they work exactly like they should.

The exception to this is the order button tag. I can paste the order button tag into FP, publish, and the code works just fine.

In playing around trying different things (using some of the formatting that the order button code
uses, which does work), even though the data is not displayed on my web page, if I right click on the published web page, and select View Source, I can see the data (name or price, for example) that I am trying to retrieve. So, it is pulling the information from the Yahoo catalog, it’s just not being displayed on the web page.

I am sure that there is some HTML tag/attribute that I need to wrap around these Yahoo catalog store tags to make it work correctly. I just can’t figure out what to use. Any ideas?

Thank you, in advance. I really appreciate any assistance that you can provide.

@conputerguy99Sep 05.2005 — Probably your best bet is to use a text editor to put those tags in the htm documents. I doubt that frontpage is deleting them though.
