Bought the domain…what now!

Hi

This is a total first for me, everything I do at the moment is intranet…so I’ve never done anything with a domain. I’m going to have a bash at knocking a decent site together for my Husband.

So, I’ve bought the domain….what do I do now?

Presumably look for a reasonable host first off (think I’ve got that covered…fasthosts.co.uk I think).

FTP the files, but what do I do about the domain? I realise this’ll be a really dumb question!

If I transfer it to fasthosts, is that an easy thing to do? Also is there a time restriction, i.e., am I restricted to the hosting company for a year? I want to be able to move the lot if they’re no up to much.

@felgallAug 25.2005 — When you get the hosting they will provide you with "nameservers" that you can then use to set up your domain to point to the hosting. You then just have to wait for the various domain name servers around the world to detect the nameserver setting you have set up so that they know where to direct requests for your domain. Domain name registration and web hosting are two totally separate things and all that links them together is the nameserver setting.
