Is anyone here a super-extra-good webpage maker… person? I need help

I’m not just talking about pety html here, I mean the complicated stuff.

You know how when you open up your browser, and it comes up with your homepage?
I made my own homepage, and I’ve got seperate little pages for me, my sister, mum etc. upon which all our links are stored – my links on my page, my mums links on her page etc.
I’m looking for a way to make the stupid things do what I want – I want to be able to add links on that page, and them stay there when you close the browser – without having to do it by editing the code (as my sister & mum are hopeless at it)
Erm… sorta like posting this thread – I type what I want in, and it appears and stays on the page.
My original idea was to use cookies, but… well… I don’t really get how I can make that work.
My second idea was to have asp pages and a database, but you have to have that hosted and stuff and it seems rather excessive.
Does anyone have any ideas? Or know the address to another site where I can post this and get some good help?

oh – and I want it all to work from my computer (I can’t afford hosting, and after all, it’s just a fancy homepage-ish thing)
I’ve got the homepage bit sorted, I just need to work out how to do the posting-ish thing and make it work.

I’m new at this, as you can probably tell. I probably haven’t explained what I want very well either. Feel free to ask me more ’bout it, if you think you might be able to help.

@satinravenauthorAug 24.2005 — I'm using firefox, if that helps in any way.

@the_treeAug 24.2005 — If your willing to run a server on your computer (this is quite easy for local use) then you could put together a basic CMS wich would do that just fine.

edit this is a great idea.

@invertedpandaAug 24.2005 — php/mysql seems like a good way to implement what you want.

You can set up Apache HTTPD on your computer to serve the pages itself, and install php and MySQL to manage the backend of things. You'll probably need PHP/MySQL if you install a CMS, anyway.

Larry Ulman's VIsual Quickpro PHP/MySQL for Dynamic Websites would be a great introduction to PHP/MySQL for what you are trying to do, if you wanted to develop it yourself rather than use a CMS.

@FangAug 24.2005 — Teach them how to use "Bookmarks". That's what it's for!

@CybIROAug 24.2005 — I'm sure we can make quite a site that can Identify who you are even by Windows login session.

However... Why don't you just simply build a homepage that has a links for each member (Like "Mom, click here... sister Click here") and then you redirect to each one's main page with their own links?

I know that the best site would be the one that does everything for your users... but let the users do something like clicking on their own names...

If this is not good enough... I promise to help you finding another "more sofisticated" solution.
