My url found by Google, but no description

Hi All,

Would greatly appreciate for your kind help as I am pretty new to this.

I have a domain http://www.valueformoneycentral.com, but is hosted under http://valueformoneycentral.com(without the www).

Have also managed to request a few external links from other websites, i.e., they have my domain(i.e., under the one with www) under their website(but under their sub-page).

I saw that Google found my url(with the www), but it doesn’t show the description.

I really have no clue as to what I have done wrongly or have missed out.

Need your kind advise.

?
Janice

@mdoignyAug 16.2005 — You site seems to have only links, not much content. Could be a "link farm'. Spiders use the content to decide to index the page or not.

@RuickAug 21.2005 — yea, spiders might of missed out on your content.

edit: i just looked at your site, and its all outgoing links. there isnt much content to provide a description, also check your meta tags.

@nightwolfzAug 31.2005 — I have the same problem with my site

http://chickspace.com

Anyone can tell me whats wrong and suggest me how to fix it?

@mdoignyAug 31.2005 — Just wait.

There is no way to fix it.

Eventually it will get indexed, maybe not.

If your domain is new, it can take up to a year to get indexed.

Some months ago, my site was not indexed (only the home page). Then suddenly spiders began downloading the site content. It takes some time too for the content to be analysed after it's downloaded.

@Iridium52Aug 31.2005 — My site is the same way; It's listed, not indexed.

My site is new as well and actually showed up in Google's index for the first time on June 25th. Then on July 25th it was dropped from Google and was nowhere in sight. A few weeks later it showed up as a listing and has been there ever since. I was hoping that it would show up again on the 25th of Aug but no luck.

I have made a robots.txt file and created a Google sitemap and neither one seems to be helping.

I have found that this practice of "listing" pages has become very common with Google lately. My site is found (With very good rankings) on MSN and Yahoo almost fully indexed. To my knowledge, both of those search engines crawl and index sites quicker than Google and they don't engage in the practice of "listing" sites, if they do I have yet to see one.

I have read just about every single page Google has to offer on "tips for webmasters" and "site maps" and nothing describes anything about their "listing" of web pages. I have done many (Google) searches and read up on the topic on many forums but nobody can really explain why this happens and how long it takes to get "unstuck" from this listing. The most interesting article actually says that Google is dying. I can believe it.

I find it very frustrating as Google arguably accounts for around 85% of search engine referrals, that's traffic that I'm not getting right now. "The more Google loves you, the more the world loves you." Sites that are listed in Google have no keywords or description so the only way to find one is searching for words that are in the URL, and even then they come up dead last. I don't even see a point in listing the sites, much less even offering their "similar pages" if there are none because they know nothing about the site.

I guess what makes it more frustrating is that other pages who have linked to me have made it into the index only days after they added my link and I'm still waiting!

OK, now that I've finished my rant can anybody who's had a similar experience being listed tell me how long it takes to get from listed to indexed?

Thanks,

Iridium52

@Iridium52Sep 01.2005 — Ok, now it seems I have 1 page indexed, I'm sure it's because visitor traffic went up X20 yesterday alone. (I have a gas price site and yesterday had record prices)

@DudleySep 12.2005 — Most new sites get thrown in the Google sandbox, meaning they will not rank well for any competitive search phrases for 5 to 8 months, and sometimes for up to a year. Why? Who knows. You can read about some of the theories here:

Sandbox Theories

Iridium52, you've got some serious coding and design issues with your site. I clicked on some of the links to the pages listed in Google for the site (73 URLs). Several links lead to pages that state: "The record you are trying to update does not exist!" These pages are not generating a status code 404 and are all essentially duplicate content, which will get penalized. If the former content is obsolete, you need to reuse those URLs or let them generate an error 404 and capture the user with an error 404 page.

One link tries to run a JavaScript file and diplays JavaScript code in the HTML title. If you are trying to use JavaScript to customize a page, you need to know that only Google and Yahoo can read a small amount of JavaScript, but they can't execute it. If you are using it to create custom HTML titles and content, you WILL have problems with search engines. If you are using JavaScript for redirects, you will likely be penalized. JavaScript was once used as a cloaking technique intended to decieve the search engines--until Google learned how to identify the technique.

Your site will do much better in the long run if you fix these issues ASAP. Hope this helps. ?

@romanumisuSep 15.2005 — You can check your web site popularity in google with this tool:

Thank you for your input but that's Google's own fault. I have a robots.txt file that disallows the update.asp page but Google has decided to index that dynamically generated page anyways.

In this case i did not expect Google to index this script. I offer the script for others to copy and paste onto their webpages. I did not think google would index this. I will add it to the disallow list on the robots.txt file soon.

My major beef this time is that I have submitted a sitemap to google and they ask me which pages that I deem important and would like to have indexed, I have gone through the effort to eliminate all javascript redirects and make my links as easy to follow as possible and at the time of this writing, 62 of the 90 pages indexed/listed are pages that are not in my site map and at least 2 pages that I ranked fairly high to be indexed are not there at all.

I will take a look at your sandbox theory link, I'm sure it will be nothing but depressing news.

@soundsolutionOct 02.2005 — I Think i have a similar problem, my pages are cached and regularly spidered have a pr3 have first page on msn and yahoo for certain keywords. Can only find site by using url or words from url. my homepage www.skyecooks.co.uk/ is indexed but index.html is a supplemental result and does not seem to have been cached since June when site was originally indexed. If anyone out there can explain this or what we can do to rectify this please look at site our meta and page content is not being spidered.
