Macromedia Contribute 3

Does anyone know anything about Macromedia Contribute 3?

Here is the situation. I work for a Municipal Utility Company in the IT Dept, and deal with everything computer related, especially the website. I of course always try to be standards compliant, use good css, no tables for layout etc, etc, but, other city departments that have their own sites don’t, and tend to come to me for advice which they usually ignore anyway.

Recently, I redid a site for a non-profit community development corporation, with the expectation that they would keep it updated and at least try to learn good technique from me. Instead, they have bought Macromedia Contribute 3 and want me to install and teach them how to use it.

Is this going to undo everything I have already done to try to help them? I didn’t see any mention of css in the instructions. In fact, I read a section on how to set up tables, which it said was a great way to achieve a good page layout. lol

If this is as bad as I think, any horror stories that I could repeat to them would be appreciated. Maybe I can talk them out of it.

@davidbrentJul 22.2005 — I am not 100% sure but I believe Macromedia Contribute 3 is purely acting as a CMS and I wouldn't say it had any major effects on a design or stylesheet.

@wamboidauthorJul 22.2005 — That's good to hear. I'll probably be waiting until Monday to install it if anyone has any other comments.

@rmtJul 22.2005 — We used Contribute as our main tool for staff adding content to the site. We created a series of templates so the end user could only add/edit certain parts of the page, this enabled us to maintain standards throughout.

The good thing about Contribute 3 is that it recognises CSS layouts, whereas previous versions diid not have a clue.

If set up correctly you can limit how much freedom a user has with regards to style and 'tinkering'

@wamboidauthorJul 26.2005 — Thanks rmt. Sounds like this may work out for them better than I thought. I'll probably get it going later today. Meant to yesterday, but took the day off!
