database outputing /’s instead of ‘s

Hi,

I am outputting text from a longblob field in mysql.

Some of the text contains apostrohhes – ‘s

However some times it outputs correctly on the page whereas other times a slash is added like this – /’s

does anyone have an explanation for this and a fix?
