I have a website and I would like to add a forum for my members to discuss certin topics. In the past I have used PHPBB now their is PHPB2 I signed up but cant seem to log in to edit things. Do you guys know of other Forum software that has editable skins or at least a few options? I would also like the forum name to be www.mysitename.com/forum or something like that.

@ShmohelJul 06.2005 — There are quite a few that you can use. This forum uses vBulletin; peronally I prefer Invision Power Boards. But there are MANY others. phpBB is a fairly simple (and easily editable) script. How much PHP experience do you have? What sort of features are important to you? Are you looking for something free?

@ShmohelJul 06.2005 — You probably should use phpBB. It is a pretty simple application, and probably has the most sites devoted to customizing ans skinning it of all of the major bulletin board systems.

Does it have an installer for you built into a Control Panel? What is it that is confusing you?

@kenderJul 07.2005 — simplemachines is good, and does most install work itself

@ephmynusJul 07.2005 — As does Ikonboard. I've seen quite a few skins for it but I'm not sure how it compares with others in that field. Extraordinarily simple setup though.

@DariaJul 08.2005 — phpBB forums is a very good resource on modifying phpBB. It only seems scary at first, with all those files... but it is actually very easy to work with.: once you figure out what's where, it's going to fly! don't feel intimidated by it - it's a "piece of pie" ?

@DariaJul 11.2005 — ? the site is "hidden" - thanks ?

anyway,

of the top of my head I want to say anything templated.

*.tpl extension, I believe, stands for Template - so if you modify for example overall_header.tpl, to modify the header throughout the site.

You should be able to locate these files in the the folders according to your "theme", for example, if you use SubSilver style theme, it will be in

forum/templates/subSilver/ directory.

Make sure you backup the copy of the original file first, prior to messing with anything!!! ?

Success!
