css background images & layers prob..

I’m using a combination stylesheet and styles on my page.
I’ve gone from lining up my layers by percentage (1st one is left:12% and is 12% wide, one to the right of it is left: 24%, width: 50%, etc.) to fixing the layers by pixel ‘left’ and ‘width’ and back again and am having one heck of a time getting them to ”fit” together. There must be some obsure thing in CSS or other place that I’ve missed, or something really simple that I’ve just overlooked.

I’ve put everything in one stylesheet and back again with no luck..
Can anyone help? The layers seem to kinda line up in mozilla & firefox, but not in IE at all (which tells me that I’m not really seeing them right in the other browsers.. and if I look closely, the center layer – content – is overlapping a little with the header…. and the right one is not tight with the header and content….). So the only layers that are correct are the header and the leftmost one (called ‘details’)

Also, in IE, the background images come in for a half-second then go away. Wassup with that?

Something’s going on here and I just can’t seem to see it. Here’s where I put the page:

Thanks.

@madcat11authorJul 01.2005 — ..forgot to mention, that in IE, you can only see the background images when you hit reload - then they go away. Click reload, there they are for a split second, then - whoosh - gone..

@mrtwice99Jul 01.2005 — Your post was not exactly clear, but from what I understand you are trying to do a 3 column layout and want it to be easier than your current method? Here are some places to start:

http://css-discuss.incutio.com/?page=ThreeColumnLayouts

or

http://www.google.com/search?q=three+column+css+layout

This one looked good to me:

My suggestion is to start with one of these templates as your foundation and work from there. It is easier to start with something that you know works and fit your pieces into it until something breaks. Then you know exactly where the problem is.

My bad, I copied from another post and didn't pay attention:

@madcat11authorJul 01.2005 — The first one did give me some hacker hints which helped with lining up (fitting) the layers correctly for those pesky 'other' browsers, but the background image problem - not showing up properly in IE (and only on reload for that split second..) has still got me stumped...

@madcat11authorJul 03.2005 — got it figured out - turn it around (put links on the left) and IE didn't like Strict pages, I guess, so I made it Transitional

Now, I will go on to my next query. Thanks everyone.

@madcat11authorJul 03.2005 — here is the new one, in case anyone is interested in seeing one fixed (for now...)
