Open "window" in new TAB vs. window

We all know about _blank to open a link in a new window. Is there a way to open a link in a new tab?

I’ve recently started using the tabbed browsing feature in Firefox and I like it but websites with _blank still opens a new window vs. a tab.

Probably not smart to do right now until IE steals the tabbed browsing idea from FF but I was wondering if it was possible.

If possible, what would be even better, for now, can you check the browser type and if Mozilla open tab. If others open window…

@rhsundergroundJun 28.2005 — i'm pretty sure that it's up to the user whether the window opens in a new tab or a new window. too bad, though. that would be an interesting feature.

@vi5inJun 28.2005 — HTML shouldn't decide how the page should be opened. The decision should be left up to the user - they can decide how to open the page - in a new window/tab or the same window/tab. That's why the target attribute is being deprecated in XHTML.
