Accessing Database from website via Search criteria & forms (to update)

I have been searching all over the internet about how to set up a database on my website. I am using MySQL, and I am very new to the whole database deal (if you haven’t guessed already). Because I am so new, chances are good that I overlooked the answer to my problems. I have found tons of great information, but very little regarding the following subjects.

1) Using a form to update a database from a webpage (for visitors/registered users)

2) Viewing the database in webpage (for all visitors)

3) Using search criteria on my webpage to access specific information in the database. (all visitors)

4) Automatically deleting old information. The information being displayed is no longer needed the day after the date is expired.

Please help, I’m so confused! Any websites, books or information you can give me would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
