Program execution

Hello, i would like to execute a program on my local computer by using a php script, but it seems that i can only execute it in the background and the program MUST terminate so that the php script can finish executing, do any of you guys know how to use the program execution functions to execute a program on the foreground and not in the background? it seems it opens it as SYSTEM, and not as my windows username on task manager, thanks in advance
