here is the site i am working on currently:

the problem i am having is with each menu box you could call it.

how do i get it so the hover background color/and the active link itself fills the whole block.

just like:
[url]http://www.alistapart.com/[/url]

also, how can i have the menu text vertically centered inside the box! thanks!

lets say...for a Clan News Page....

should i use little boxes

http://www.clan-woa.com/portal.php

or more like

http://alistapart.com/

i know there isnt like a right way, just asking what you guys prefer or if you have some other suggestion! thanks!
