Is Opera screwing up, or am I?

Ok, this is something I’m struggling with.. Opera doesn’t seem to like my new Social Engine layout. At first I decided to just say “eh, very few of my viewers use Opera, and it’s W3C compliant, so whatever”, but I want to be sure..

I coded it in HTML 4.01 Strict. The W3C Validator says it’s good. IE and Firefox render it perfect, but Opera repositions the 3 content columns.. Putting one right below the other, instead of side-by-side.

You can view the page here:

In contrast, it renders a 2 column layout with a different method of positioning just fine.

Am I doing something wrong, or is Opera?

@amazing_andr3Jun 01.2005 — I think you're using too many nested divs. You even have nested floating divisions, although there's no need for that. Clean things up a little bit and the error will either solve itself or it will be more easy to figure out what's causing it.

are you using opera 8? because it looks fine in 7.23.

@invertedpandaauthorJun 01.2005 — Yeah, Opera 8.

@invertedpandaauthorJun 02.2005 — Well, I cleaned up a few of the divs, but honestly, I see no reason that it should be doing what it is doing - and I can't remove any more divs without changing the look of the layout itself.

If someone can give me a reason as to why it's doing this, I'd love to know. I need to get this site live by saturday, and I'd rather not let it go up if it's not 100% ready for all mainstream browsers.
