@NogDogMay 06.2005 — Do you have any programming experience in other languages? If not, I strongly recommend some classes/training in programming, whether it be in PHP, C++, Perl, Java, whatever. They all have common concepts (if/else logic, loops, arrays, I/O, etc.) that transfer more or less to all other programming languages.

If you already have some experience in programming, then php.net is as good a resource as any. The on-line manual is pretty good and has a lot of often-useful user comments, as well. There is even a simple tutorial there at http://us3.php.net/manual/en/tutorial.php .

Just to be pedantic about it, :rolleyes: HTML is not programming, it's semantic markup of text. When you get into PHP (or ASP, or Cold Fusion, etc.) you are then entering the world of programming, and all the complexities and opportunities that provides.

I am in no way trying to discourage you. I applaud your quest to improve your web-site-building skills. I just think that jumping into a few PHP tutorials will not give you all the skills/tools that are available for working with PHP. If nothing else, spend $10 on a used copy of PHP and MySQL for Dummies to make sure you get started off on the right foot.

Good luck, and have fun!

@Lightfoot82May 20.2005 — Hi Guys,

Just came across the post, I have experience in programming and a while back decided to learn PHP, my advice is use the above site provided by nodog, but I would try and get your hands on a "Sams Teach Yourself PHP" book as they begin from scratch with the fundamentals and take you up into the higher levels of programming.

@Stephen_PhilbinMay 20.2005 — I've never needed anything other than http://www.zend.com/manual/

It's a smidge less user friendly since they ditched the syntax highlighting, but that's no big deal.
