Where should I start to learn to web-develop?

I figured this would be the best place to ask, but I want to develop a fairly simple webpage, but I know nothing about HTML, CSS, or anything I could use to make it. Where would be a good place to start using the tutorials? Or is there something/where else I should try to get info? What should I learn?

thats where i started... 3 years ago...

i'd suggest to learn tables, but understand they are NOT for layout... know how to use them, but learn HTML, then learn CSS...

@buntineMay 09.2005 — Its not mandatory, but will help you in the long run to either buy a book or take a course on introductory Web Development. In either case, look at the content and ensure you are getting taught the latest and most proven concepts.
