A place for my client to easily put images.

Hi, I have a client that needs to be able to upload images to the internet easily. She is not very computer literate but would rather not have to go through me every couple of days to upload images for her clients. Does anybody know of a good site to do that, hopefully one that is not too complex and hopefully allows me to style it to match her website?

@scragarApr 20.2005 — if you have access to PHP I can quickly let you download my similar script(it's too big for these forums to accept, but it's a single page to upload them, manage them and remove them), all you need is to add a pasword system and your sorted.

so the question is this: Do you have PHP?

@BigMoosieauthorApr 20.2005 — Dude, that would be fantastic, my client wishes to change her server if she must as at the moment does not have PHP but... yeah how could I go about obtaining that? You are a saviour.

@scragarApr 20.2005 — If you don't have PHP at the moment I'm sure you can find a free site that will host it for you, then you can do what you want with them.

My servers still not up(it broke before), but I'll post it in several messages when I can.

@mac435Apr 20.2005 — www.btooth.co.uk

Wouldn't that do the trick? Its not well known on the net but is a hit in my local area...

@BigMoosieauthorApr 21.2005 — Yes, I may host it on my brothers site if he lets me or else I can find a free one I guess. I am meeting with her today. I have set up a simple folder that she can maintain with a directory listing and if that doesnt cut it then I may need your help.

With that btooth thing mac, I had a look and I thankyou for the suggestion but these images kind of have to be a part of her website.

I will be back in about four hours and I should know exactly what I will or will not need to do.

@scragarApr 21.2005 — my server has just posted a message(about 2 hours ago, but I just got back online), the site will be down untill saturday. They didn't give a real explination though...

@BigMoosieauthorApr 21.2005 — That is odd, I hope you don't loose any business from it or anything. I now know exactly what she wants. To be available on her site to the public: a main page with a list of links to other pages that contain images so it might be like:

  • - So and so's wedding pics

  • - Such and such corporate job

  • - Little Joe's Barmitzvah

  • When you click a link you are directed to another page with a heading and a list of the photos that she has uploaded. As you can see what is available to the public is very simple and would take very little time for anybody with a little experience to do. However I need it to be simple for her to do and it must resize the images to be smaller if she uploads them wrong.

    Pretty much she needs a file manager like the one that geocities has but much more basic with just add or remove image and add or remove sub-directory. How much would be involved with doing this? Are there cut n paste examples? Is it all just PHP? I would really like to know this. Thaknyou

    @scragarApr 21.2005 — I could easily set this up if you wish:imgs/index.php
    reads in the current folder and list the folders names.
    she can choose to add here own text as the title
    or whatever.
    imgs/dir/index.php
    Reads in the current imgs in the folder and
    loops through to display an image for each one.
    an add page would be set up, and then she could add or remove folders, and from there a dropdown let's here choose where to add images she uploads.

    EDIT: no, I'm not loosing business, the host charges me a minimal amount($1/month) and I only use it for testing(which is why I get it so cheap). My real(proper host) guarentee 99.99% up time, but I'd have to pay twice the price to upgrade my plan so I would have enough space just to do my testing. Unfortunatly I rarely have use for new images so my upload script has just been considered a working test project(keep in achive untill need or whatever).

    @BigMoosieauthorApr 21.2005 — Scragar,

    I cannot express how grateful I am for you helping me, it means a great deal to me and my client.

    As soon as you have time to do this, thankyou, but if you are busy this can wait a few days. What you described would be perfect.

    One small thing.... is it possible to resize the images if they are wider or higher than 400px? If not I can teach her to resize them herself but if it is just like a couple of lines of extra code that would make it 100% perfect.

    Once again, Thankyou very much!

    @scragarApr 21.2005 — PHP can read in the size, but I've never actualy tried to resize them using PHP. you could have the html use the height and width properties to set this, but then they could look distorted...

    @BigMoosieauthorApr 21.2005 — I just moved this to the PHP section now that I am aware that this is the primary technology required. Now that it is here hopefully some of you other PHP gurus may be able to tell me how I could resize images.
