Scroller in Netscape

I am trying to create a vertical scroller, that loops (or appears to loop). I have been successful in IE and Netscape 6+, but for some reason, i cannot get it to display properly in Netscape 4. Ironically, the problem is not with the scroller function.

See this link to see the script: http://ricom.co.uk/test/scroller.html

If the table in the layer, is shorter than than the width of the layer itself, everything works fine. However, if the table is wider, than it disappears altogether.

I have included a shorter table, which i have commented, for ease.

Can anyone help. I am pulling my hair out. I have been on this so long now, i am probably missing something really stupid. ?

By the way. this is my first post to this board. Why does my envelope icon on the main page have a black dot on it, and none of the others do? There is no description for this icon at the bottom of the page.

We help where we can. I looked at your page, and could not immediately figure out a way to help you.

As I do not have any great love for scrollers, frankly it did not impel me to jump in. If there was something that I could have pointed out that was just plain wrong or broken, I would have helped out.

I know that in order to get the scroll to move, you need to clip the layer as you move it. The actual clip.width would be the visible part of the message, the clip.left and clip.right would be moved in reasonable increments to move the visible area. Then the left position is decremented the same amount in order to keep the window in position on the page.

There are known problems with tables and layers in Netscape. They just don't like each other. However, there was nothing obvious in your page.

HTH.

@Rik_ComeryauthorMar 21.2003 — OK. Thanks for taking a look anyway. I guess i could just display a non-scrolling link for NS4.

@gil_davisMar 21.2003 — Well, I got curious and went ahead and invented one. See attached.
