Javascript ASP.Net conflict

I have an asp.net form which works fine. As it has several numeric fields which I need to display a ‘total’ for prior to the user hitting ‘submit’.

I used a javascript for doing the totals which works fine by itself but not when combined with the form. If I take runat=”server” off the fields in question the total works but of course then the form doesn’t pass on the info to the database or email.
