CIW Certification, anyone got any opinions?

Hi

I was thinking of doing this so that I could add it to my CV, but am not too sure how worthwhile it would be.

Does anyone have any knowledge of it good or bad? I can’t decide from this site exactly how worthwhile it is and thought maybe someone around here would have some knowledge/experiance of it.

@spufiMar 23.2005 — I have very little experience with them, so don't read too much into what I say. However, my experience with them has wanted to make me run the other way. Like, really fast. ? I took a Java class at a college, and the teacher admitted the book was one of the worst he had come across(I felt the same) and even though the school was required to use it, he was going to see if they could replace it, or add in another book the next semester. The book cost $100 and I could have gotten a vastly better book for half that. The info in their books, even when good, is very sparse. If it's an online class, you just have to hope the other info they give you can fill in the needed holes. If it's an onsite class, hopefully the teacher knows enough to fill in what you need to know.

I'll point out two other places. I was disappointed with O'Reilly's classes too. The big project for JavaScript is making a calculator. I didn't see much else in terms of depth for any of the other classes either. You could just as easily pick up a decent book on a subject, weed through it, and then show examples to prove to whoever that you learned the subject.

The other place is http://www.hwg.org/ HTML Writer's Guild. I have not taken a course there yet. I did see that their later CSS classes has Eric Meyer teaching them, so they can't be THAT bad. They don't offer all of their classes all the time, so getting through a whole certification may take more time than you like. They do seem to be on the cheaper side compared to other places.
