mysql: excluding certain rows based on its value(s)

Hello.
What I’m trying to do is obtain all the rows from a table whose ‘votes’ value is not zero. How can this be done?
When you pull results from a table, and you say SELECT * FROM table, the ‘*‘ is telling MySQL to select all rows, right? Well if so, can the ‘*’ be replaced with something like “WHERE votes != 0” to only select rows that fulfill the requirement (ie whose votes values are not zero)? Thanks in advance for any input.

@balloonbuffoonauthorMar 15.2005 — Seems like I answered my own question! I did some more research and found out that WHERE is an actual command and I figured out how to get what I want. Thanks for looking.
