Browser Compatability

Hi
I have some js functions which deal with event.fromElement,event.toElement and event.srcElement.This code works perfectly in IE.But on netscape,nothing seems to work.They come as undefined.
Can anyone tell me,how to take care of such functions so that they are compatible with Netscape and FireFox
